aircraft contrails account for up to 2.3% of global warming. Help us understand them by making contrail measurements with your phone! Just point your phone at a contrail you can see in the sky.

Can't see a contrail right now? add contrailkit to your homescreen for next time.

what is the purpose of contrailkit?

contrails are linear clouds of ice crystals that condense from jet engine exhaust gases. They reflect and trap thermal radiation from the sun as well as from the earth. By some estimates contrails may create more of a warming effect on the climate than the CO2 emissions from planes.

To reduce the impact of contrails, we need data to understand their formation. You can help improve our contrail modelling technology by making measurements of contrails using your phone.
